This document was developed by The Open Group Architecture Foundation (TOGAF). It is a comprehensive document providing the required format to develop an Architecture Definition document. The purpose of the document as defined by TOGAF is:

The Architecture Definition Document is the deliverable container for the core architectural artifacts created during a project. The Architecture Definition Document spans all architecture domains (business, data, application, and technology) and also examines all relevant states of the architecture (baseline, interim state(s), and target).

This document template can also be modified to create other EA documents, such as a Solutions Architecture Definition (SAD), Technical Detailed Design (TDD), or even a Technology Architecture Blueprint (TAB) – simply by changing the sections and adding the required information. Overall a very useful tool when you have a requirement to document a solution.
